# VPS for Australia and New Zealand: ranked by measured latency from Sydney, with prices in Australian dollars (2026-10)

Last price check: 2026-10-20

Australia and New Zealand are about 150 ms from the US West Coast and 200 to 300 ms from Europe, and Hetzner has no Australian data centre. So when buying a VPS here, look at latency before price. The table ranks the in-stock plans on this site by the ping measured from Globalping probes in Sydney, lowest first, with the monthly price also in Australian dollars (at the day's rate, US$1 = A$1.4325); click a column header to sort by price or traffic instead.

## Fastest in-stock plans, measured from Sydney

Each plan is shown with the fastest of its test IPs from Sydney; results with 20% loss or more are left out. The probes sit in data centres, so a home connection will add a little.

The "Latency from outside China" table on each vendor page also has figures from Tokyo, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and other cities, for comparing which box suits users in Asia or the US.

## Vendors with Australian data centres

Among the vendors on this site, these have Australian data centres: V.PS (Sydney, often out of stock), DigitalOcean (Sydney SYD1, same price in every data centre). From Sydney their latency is only a few milliseconds; without an Australian data centre, Tokyo, Singapore and Los Angeles are usually next best, at roughly 100 to 150 ms.

New Zealand readers: this site has no Auckland probe yet; take the Sydney figures as a lower bound.

## Before you buy

- GST: Under the Australian Taxation Office's rules, overseas businesses selling digital services to Australian consumers charge GST (10%); vendors over the registration threshold add it at checkout, and the prices in the table do not include it. Buying as a business with an ABN usually means no GST is charged. - Traffic: Some vendors give their Australian data centres less traffic than the US or Europe, or charge more for overage, so check before ordering; the traffic in the table is the monthly total the vendor states.
- Claude: Australia and New Zealand are both in Anthropic's supported regions, so a local data centre is fine for Claude Code or an AI agent.
- Out of stock: If the plan you want is out of stock, subscribe to the [stock-change RSS](https://vps.appsail.dev/feed.xml), which posts an item when it comes back.

About the data: prices, data centres and ports are as stated on each vendor's website. Each row is one plan: “Main server (8G)” is the cheapest 8G RAM plan we have verified for that vendor and route, for running Claude Code; “Relay (China-optimised route)” is the cheapest plan of any RAM size for that vendor and route, used as a proxy or relay. All prices are converted to a US dollar monthly price (¥6.69 = $1, mid-rate on 2026-10-20); where a yearly price exists we divide it by 12, and the monthly price is shown under “List price and billing”. Route labels follow the vendor's own product names or descriptions; this site does not run route tests. The green tag “Native / Residential / Dual-ISP” after the route marks the IP type (of interest for cross-border e-commerce and overseas social media work), also as the vendor's product name or description states it; this site does not verify each IP. The blue tag “Windows available” after the specs means the vendor offers a Windows image for the listed plan (for running graphical programs such as anti-detect browsers); whether a licence fee applies is up to the vendor and has not been checked one by one. “CN2” means the vendor only says CN2, without stating GIA or GT; “All 3 carriers optimised” means the vendor states that return traffic for Telecom, Unicom and Mobile goes over optimised routes. The “Telecom xx · Unicom xx · Mobile xx ms” under the test IP is the average latency of pings from up to 12 public measurement probes on each of mainland China's three carriers; each hour one vendor takes its turn, each vendor gets two or three time slots a day, and the day's runs are averaged. The probes differ every run, so the figures are for reference only; hover to see the probe cities and loss rate. When one network shows 20% loss or more it is marked “Telecom 99 (loss 55%)”; such a route will lag in real use, and filters and sorting do not count it as reachable. IPs that block ping are tested on a TCP port instead. “no reply” on one network means that probe could not reach the IP; “Test IP unreachable” means probes both inside and outside China could not reach it, usually because the test IP has been retired; it does not mean the route or the server is unavailable. Hong Kong data centres are not in Anthropic's supported regions; other data centres are judged by the official list of supported countries, which does not mean every IP has been tested to work.

Some buy links carry an affiliate commission; commissions do not affect the ranking or the data in the table. Some vendors' affiliate links can only land on the home page; in that case the “Product page” link next to the plan goes straight to the plan's page, without commission. Where a vendor has a public coupon code, it is shown next to the plan; enter it yourself at checkout.
